Google stellt iPhone-Mail-Client reMail als Open Source bereit

Am 17. Februar2010 hat Google das Start-Up reMail übernommen. Keine zwei Monate später stellt Google den iPhone-Mail-Client der Entwicklerszene als Open Source zur Verfügung. Das Interessante hierbei ist, dass klar das Ziel der Übernahme von reMail durch Google zum Vorschein kommt. Nämlich die Fähigkeiten und das Wissen der reMail-Entwickler, allen voran Gabor Cselle, zu bekommen. Dies ist in der Ankündigung (siehe hier und Zitat unten) klar zu erkennen.

Last month, we announced reMail’s acquisition by Google. Since we’ll be focusing on other projects at Google, we also decided to remove reMail from the App Store. Existing users were able to keep using it because reMail is a client-only application. Our announcement caused a lot of interest in reMail’s product, and we looked at a number of options to make it available in some form. We decided that the best option was to open source the code, which is now available on Google Code.
